Feral Burin musiikin avainsanat ovat hardrock ja powertrio -kokoonpano. Avausraita Rawhide Cowboy viittaa paremminkin päristelyyn kuin arkaaiseen, syvään americanaan. Perusjyystöstä tulee ensimmäisenä mieleen (yllättäen) Peer Gynt, mutta varsin omanlaisekseen yhtyeen sointi värittyy bluessävyjen, kasarihevikoukkujen  ja etenkin runsaan stemmalaulannan myötä. Minor Hero ei oikeastaan lisää mitään reseptiin, mutta varsin tarttuva purkkapallo se on. Päätösraita Midnight Rose ei ole biisinä sekään mikään älynväläys, mutta sen kertosäkeen grungemaiset lauluharmoniat tuovat siihen ison annoksen tarttuvuutta ja mielenkiintoa. Nokkamies Mark Tuomala leipoo Stratocasterillaan vanhan liiton kepittäjien hengessä varsin notkeasti ja taitavasti. Koko koplan yhteispeli on erittäin tiukkaa teknisessä mielessä, mutta se kaipaisi vielä silauksen sovituksellista ja soinnillista puhuttelevuutta ja sävykkyyttä. Perinteinen ja geneerinen hardrock on harvoin mielenkiintoista ja tuoretta. Feral Burn onnistuu tässä lähes mahdottomassa tehtävässä.

The keywords to Feral Burn's music are hardrock and powertrio. The opening track Rawhide Cowboy refers to riding bikes rather than the archaic, deep americana. First association from the basic grind is (suprisingly) Peer Gynt, but the band's sound is coloured quite uniquely through blues tones, 80's heavy twists, and especially through abundant chorus singing. Minor Hero does not really add anything to the recipe but is, however, rather catchy gumball. The ending track Midnight Rose is not really an invention of a song, but its chorus' grungelike vocal harmonies bring a big dose of catchiness into it and make it more interesting. The headman Mark Tuomela shreds his Stratocaster quite agilely and skillfully. On technical level the whole group's playing together is very tight, but would need a touch of compositionary interaction and tonality. Traditional and generic hard rock is rarely interesting and fresh. Feral Burn manages to pull off this almost impossible mission.

Kun tarpeeksi odottelee, niin sekin musiikki tulee taas ajankohtaiseksi, jota pikkupoikana diggaili. Niin tuntuu käyneen Feral Burnille. Tämä musiikki nojaa puhtaasti 80-luvulta saatuun  perintöön,jonka voimalla tuntuu käyvän yhä enenevä määrä yhtyeitä.

Kappaleet ovat napakan tehokkaita, soitto kulkee mallikkaasti ja lauluäänikin kumpuaa suoraan sylttytehtaalta. Homma on siis hienoisti kasassa.

Tällä kolmen kappaleen levyllä ei ole oikeastaan muuta vikaa, kuin se, että se on tuntemattoman kotimaisen yhtyeen aikaansaannos. Jos nämä kappaleet löytyisivät vaikka Mötley Cruen uusimmalta levyltä, niin nehän voisivat vaikka soida radiossa.

Musiikillinen linja on hevi - näin ei kuuluisuus tule, mutta soittaessa varmasti on hauskaa ja yleisöllä mukavaa.

When you wait long enough, the music that you listened to as a kid becomes once again into fashion. This seemes to have happened to Feral Burn. This music clearly continues the heritage of the 80's, as seems to be the case with more and more bands nowadays.

The songs are effective, the playing is exemplary, and the vocal sound is straight from the grinder. In other words, they have got it together.

The only problem with this three-song record is that it is made by a Finnish band not many have heard of. If these songs were found on, let's say Mötley Crüe's latest album, they might even be playing on the radio.

The musical genre is heavy metal - not a way to fame, but I am sure they have fun playing it and the audience has fun rocking to it.

Eipä tehnyt Feral Burnkaan minusta viskin ja dieselin katkuisen hard rockin ystävää, vaikka alan kiemurat tällä helsinkiläistriolla onkin hyvin hallussa. “Menevät kitarariffit” – kuten bändi itse kuvailee – tuntuvat sataan kertaan kuulluilta, sen sijaan 80-luvun hiuslakkarokilta haiskahatava kakkosbiisi Minor Hero tuntuisi sopiva bändille huomattavasti paremmin.

Kolmeen pekkaan bändi on saanut yllättävän muhkea soundin aikaiseksi, itse en ainakaan liiemmälti kitaratuplauksia bongannut, ja meno on kaikinpuolin jämäkkää. Vähän lisää persoonallista otetta, eikä pieni tiivistäminenkään olisi pahitteeksi, sillä biisit kellottavat lähemmäs viisi minuuttia kukin.

Although this Helsinki based trio have the genre's tricks well in hand, Feral Burn did not manage to make me a friend of whiskey and diesel flavoured hard rock. "Rolling guitar riffs" - as the band themselves put it - feel like heard a hundred times over. However the 80's hairspray rock sounding second song Minor Hero seems to fit the band considerably better.

Despite being a trio, the band have managed to create a suprisingly full sound. At least I did not spot too many doubled guitar tracks, and the going is quite tight on all accounts. Since the songs clock almost five minutes each, cutting few a bit shorter and adding a little more personal touch would not hurt.

Hard rock on yksi niistä lukuisista genreistä, joissa melkein kaikki on tehty jo miljoonaan kertaan, ja joissa nykyajan tekijät rakentelevat keitoksiaan hyvin pitkälti samoista aineksista kuin 30 vuotta aiemmin toimineet esikuvansa. Eikä siinä mitään, se on fakta joihin useimpien musiikintekijöiden on pakko sopeutua. Olisi ehkä argumentoitavissa, että tällaisessa tilanteessa olevilla jo lähestymistapa on virheellinen, mutta kyllähän leipää ja sirkushuveja aina tarvitaan, vaikka pullaa ja kokeellista teatteria joskus mieli tekisikin.

Helsinkiläisen Feral Burnin toinen julkaisu, kolmibiisinen Blind Date With The Dueller jatkaakin suunnilleen siitä, mihin edellinen julkaisunsa jäi. Tukka putkella laukkaava perinnetietoinen hard rock sulautuu bluesista napattuihin vaikutteisiin ja kokonaisuudessaan touhu on yllättävän pop. Erityisesti tähän vaikuttaa komeat lauluharmoniat. Toki kliseitä on mukaan eksynyt enemmän kuin hyppysellinen, mutta ainakin näin kolmen biisin pakettina homma toimii mainiosti. Tiukka yhteissoitto, kelvolliset biisit ja tyylikkyys eivät kuitenkaan tänä päivänä taida riittää demoastetta kauemmas, mutta omasta tyylistään tulee pitää kiinni – se on jokaisen oikeus ja velvollisuus.

Hard rock is one of the many genres in which everything has been done already a million times over, and in which modern bands cook up their songs from basically the same ingredients as their idols did 30 years ago. But that's alright, it's a fact that most people making music have to adapt to. One might make an argument that bands in this situation fundamentally approach music making from a wrong direction, but after all, people will always be in need of bread and circus, although every once in a while one might crave for sweet bread and experimental theatre.

The second release from Helsinki based Feral Burn, a three-song Blind Date With The Dueller, does continue approximately from where their previous release left them. Fast paced traditional hard rock blends in with blues influences and all in all it sounds suprisingly pop. Especially this comes through in the form of fine vocal harmonies. Naturally clichés are abundant, but at least in a three-song format the record sounds great. I'm afraid however, that tight playing as a band, good enough songs, and style are not enough these days to carry a band further than demo phase. But one has to hold on to their own style - it's everyone's right and duty.

Helsinkiläisen Feral Burnin Backstage-demonäytteellä rokataan mukavan vapautuneesti. Vuonna 2004 alkunsa saanut ja 2007 nykyiseen muotoonsa vakiintunut kokoonpano tarjoilee kuultavasti 70-80-lukujen vaikutteilla rikastettua hardrokkia perin varmaotteisesti. Viidestä biisistä koostuvalle promolle on sävelletty musisointia rempseistä rokkirevittelyistä aina tunnelmallisiin slovareihin saakka.

Feral Burnin biisit perustuvat groovaaviin rokkiriffeihin ja tarttuviin laulumelodioihin. Trion kokoisen iskuryhmän perussoundi ihastuttaa, sillä vaikka kitarasooloja ja nerokkaita päällekkäsmelodioita tarjoillaankin, ei homma karkaa missään vaiheessa turhanpäiväiseksi soittotaidon esittelyksi. Rock-raapaisujen väliin sävelletyt hitaammat biisit tuovat kokonaisuuteen monipuolisuutta ja esittelevät bändin tunnelmallisen puolen.

Hyvästä yrityksestään huolimatta Feral Burn ei täysin omaperäisyydellään pääse kerskailemaan, sillä vaikutekirjo aina 70 -luvulta nykypäivään on pienellä mietinnällä havaittavissa. Kokonaisuutena Backstage on kuitenkin varsin onnistunut tuotos, sillä se esittelee varmaotteisen rockbändin, jolta löytyy oikeanlaisen asenteen lisäksi pilkettä silmäkulmasta.

Helsinki based Feral Burn's Backstage demo sample rocks on nice and loose. The lineup shaped through 2004 to 2007 offers noticeably 70-80's influenced hard rock very firm handedly. The five song demo includes compositions from raffish rock pieces all the way to moody slow tunes.

Feral Burn's songs are based on groovy rock riffs and catchy vocal melodies. The basic sound of the trio shock troop is delightful since although guitar solos and ingenious double melodies are available, the point does not lose itself to become a useless show of playmanship. The slower tunes written between the rock pieces bring versatility to the whole and introduce the moody side of the band.

Despite their good effort, Feral Burn does not get to boast too much on originality, since the array of influences all the way from the 70's to the modern day can be identified with ease. However, all in all Backstage is quite a successful demo, since it showcases a firm handed rock band, who, in addition to a right kind of attitude, are not afraid to have a bit of fun.

Voisin lyödä vaikka oikeasta kädestäni vetoa, että koko Feral Burn-kolmikon suurimpiin vaikuttajiin kuuluu KISS. Helsinkiläisbändi kun veivaa hardrockiaan häpeilemättömästi 70- ja 80-lukujen hengessä, mitä nyt astetta hitaammat rallit ovat totuttua suuremmassa osassa. Bändin viisibiisisen esikoisdemon paras veto on valkattu oikeaoppisesti avausbiisiksi. Jopa turhankin paljon kasarikaavojen mukaan kulkeva Backstage Pass on oppikirjamaisesta olemuksestaan huolimatta menevä ja tarttuva kipale vahvan kertosäkeensä johdolla.

Valitettavasti tasokkuus jää tällä demolla avauksen varaan, sillä muut rallit eivät onnistu vakuuttamaan, kun materiaali on parista napakasta koukusta huolimatta melko keskinkertaista. Päätösherkistely In Every Moment on tosin poikkeuksellisen hyvä yritys, kun yleensä demotason rokkarit saisivat jättää balladit muiden tehtäviksi. Lauluun kiinnittäisin seuraavalla lätyllä enemmän huomiota, sillä omaperäisyydestä ja perusasioiden hallitsemisesta huolimatta toiminta mikin takana on varsin epävarmaa ja hiomatonta. Sen sijaan toimivista ja hyvin sovitetuista sooloista täytyy antaa oikein erityismaininta. Joka tapauksessa treenaamista täytyy jatkaa nöyränä.

I could bet my right hand on the fact that one of Feral Burn trio's biggest influences is KISS, since this band from Helsinki play their hard rock shamelessly in the spirit of the 70's and 80's. Although slightly slower tunes play a bigger role than expected. Out of the five songs on the demo, the best song has been correctly chosen as the opening track. Maybe a little too much eighties- mold made Backstage Pass is a catchy song with a strong chorus, despite its text book form.

Unfortunately this opening track is the only quality piece on this demo, since the other tunes fail to impress when the material is quite mediocre despite few tight hooks. Closing softie In Every Moment is, however, exceptionally good effort, when generally demo level rockers would do better to leave ballads out of their repertoire. On the next record, I would pay more attention to the vocals, since despite originality and good basic skills, the work behind the mic is quite unsure and rough around the edges. On the other hand, a special word goes in for the functional and well composed solos. In any case, the band needs to keep humbly practising.

Klassista hard rockia veivaava helsinkiläinen trio tuntuu hallitsevan lajityypin koukut. Tempo on kova, riffit iskeviä ja teknisesti bändi suoriutuu hommasta moitteetta. Nopeasti tilutetut kitarasoolotkin kulkevat todella jouhevasti. Jos tämä riittää yhtyeelle itselleen, niin mikäs siinä. Mutta tällaisena Feral Burn kyllä hukkuu siihen valtavaan hard rock -bändien massaan, vaikka teknisesti onkin paremmasta päästä. Hitaammissa raidoissa vokalistin suoritukseen tulee jähmeyttä, mutta menopaloissa karhea laulu toimii kuten pitääkin. Sävellystasollakaan tämä demo ei erikoisempaa huomiota herätä, vaan tarjoilee standardien mukaista hard rockia raita toisensa jälkeen.

This classic hard rock playing Helsinki trio seems to know the hooks of the genre. Tempo is fast, riffs pack a punc, and technically the band performs without difficulties. Rapidly fretted guitar solos run very smoothly as well. It is all and well if this is enough for the band themselves. However, such as it is, Feral Burn drowns in the vast mass of hard rock bands, although they are technically from the top end. On the slower tracks, the vocalists performance becomes stiff, but on the speedy tunes the rough singing works as it should. Considering compositions, this demo does not arouse any special attention, but offers standard hard rock track after track.
